Angelina Jolie (originally Angelina
Jolie Voight) is an American actress and director, most well-known for her sex
appeal, edginess and humanitarian work. Her supporting role in Girl,
Interrupted (1999) was a role she was awarded in the Academy Award. Jolie, the
daughter of actor Jon Voight, spent most of her growing up in New York. She
moved to Los Angeles when she was 11. After two years at the Lee Strasberg
Theatre and Film Institute in Los Angeles, she attended Beverly Hills High
School. Later, she studied acting at New York University. Alongside acting in
theatre productions, she was a model and featured in music videos.Jolie's first
big film performance was in Hackers (1995) and during the filming of which she
became engaged to her first husband British actor Jonny Lee Miller (married
1996 divorced in 1999). It wasn't well-loved like a variety of other movies. In
1997, however Jolie gained a lot of notice for her performance as the wife of
Alabama's segregationist governor in the television movie George Wallace, and
she later was awarded the Golden Globe Award for her portrayal. She played the
role of a supermodel who struggles with drug addiction in the HBO movie Gia in
1999. The performance won her numerous honours including the Golden Globe Award
and Screen Actors Guild Award. She starred with John Cusack in Pushing Tin in
1999. In the following year, she married Thornton (divorced in 2003). Jolie was
the carjacker's wife (Nicolas Cage), in Gone in Sixty Seconds 2000. Then, she
took on her British accent and learned street fighting and kickboxing to be
able to play the characters in Lara Croft Tomb Raider 2001 and Lara Croft Tomb
Raider The Cradle of Life 2003. In 2004 she portrayed the mother of Alexander
the Great in Oliver Stone's Alexander as well as starred alongside Gwyneth
Paltrow and Jude Law in Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow, a sci-fi
thriller set in the 1930s of New York City. Both films were disappointing at
the box office, but Jolie's Mr. & Mrs. Smith (2005) was the biggest success.
Jolie played a character who was playing a typical householdwife as she worked
on the movie. Brad Pitt became her co-star.
